I think what it’s really illustrative of is the implication that pomegranates aren’t as popular as other produce. For example, it used to be very difficult to find certain fruits and vegetables when they weren’t in season in the US. Now, you can find asparagus from Venesula, and apples from Pago Pago (okay, honestly, I don’t know what Pago Pago exports, or even if it’s a real destination, but you get my drift, I’m sure).
